This paper presents the results of the analysis of digital image correlation techniques` application for the study of physical and mechanical characteristics of building materials. The method of digital image correlation is an optical method based on mathematical correlation analysis of digital images. As the result, with the use of the technique it is possible to assess changes in the surface characteristics of the material and understand the structural element behavior. On the basis of the review, it can be argued that methods, which use digital image correlation have extremely broad prospective for diagnosis, monitoring and control of building structures and materials. DIC methods allow to obtain the complete spatial information model of the structure stress-strain state.
