The foundation takes the load from the above-ground structures, so the durability of the entire building depends on its quality. There are different types of foundations that are relevant for different engineering and geological conditions. However, reinforced concrete remains the main material for construction. The foundation and basement of a building are constantly under hydrostatic water pressure. And reinforced concrete is very sensitive to moisture: having a porous structure, this material actively absorbs dampness. A hydrobarrier protects reinforced concrete from groundwater. Hence the importance of high-quality waterproofing of the basement from the outside.
